Phothera 200XL Phototherapy Device

1. Device Overview

The Phothera 200XL is an advanced, high-capacity phototherapy device for home or clinical use, designed for treating hands, feet, and larger areas. The 200XL uses a Digital Timer (DT) Controller, offers exposure-limiting software for safety, and is available in both 2-lamp and 4-lamp configurations. Treatments must always be performed under the guidance of a physician.

2. Indications for Use

For the treatment of diagnosed skin disorders such as psoriasis, vitiligo, and atopic dermatitis (eczema) in patients from pediatric to geriatric age, under physician supervision.

3. Warnings & Safety Precautions

  • Prescription Use Only: This device must only be used under the order and direction of a licensed physician.
  • Protect Your Eyes: Always wear Phothera-approved UV-blocking goggles during use, and ensure anyone nearby does as well.
  • Cover Untreated Skin: Use SPF 30+ sunscreen on all areas not being treated.
  • Device Safety: Do not use with a damaged cord or plug; keep away from water.
  • Ultraviolet Radiation: Overexposure can cause burns, skin aging, or cancer. Never remove eye protection during treatment. Remove pets and people from the area.
  • Do not modify: No unauthorized modifications or repairs; use only original accessories.
  • Let your doctor know about any new medications or health conditions, especially if photosensitizing drugs are prescribed.
  • Wait until burned/irritated skin is healed before resuming treatment.
  • Duty cycle: For treatments longer than 10 minutes, allow at least 10 minutes of cooldown between sessions.

4. Setup & Assembly

  1. Site selection: Place on a flat, dry, well-ventilated surface, near a grounded outlet, away from moisture and children.
  2. Unpacking: Remove device, stand, power cord, and all accessories from packaging. Inspect for shipping damage before discarding materials.
  3. Assembly:
    • 2-Lamp Model: Assemble the 3-piece acrylic stand and insert the device per manual illustrations. See manual for diagrams (page 6-7).
    • 4-Lamp Model: Assemble stand with included knobs, washers, and spacers. Attach and adjust per manual diagrams (pages 7-10).
  4. Lamp Check: Confirm that installed lamps match your prescription (usually PLL-36W/01 Narrowband UVB for 200XL).

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Press any button to power on the DT controller.
  2. Enter the security code (default 0007) using UP-ARROW and PLAY/PAUSE buttons to unlock.
  3. Set the prescribed treatment time using the arrow buttons and PLAY/PAUSE.
  4. Position hands/feet on the lamp guard or, for treating top of hands/feet, follow manual instructions for stand-off or flipping the device.
  5. Put on goggles, start the treatment (PLAY/PAUSE), and wait for session to end (lamps will auto-stop).
  6. For hands/feet: Use 0 inches (on acrylic guard); for larger areas: hold treated area 9 inches from lamps.
  7. After each session, record treatment and check for skin response.

6. Timer & Security Code

  • Device locks after 3 minutes of inactivity.
  • Default security code is 0007. Use UP-ARROW to select numbers, PLAY/PAUSE to enter.
  • If exposure limiting is enabled, when exposures are low/expired, a "CXXX" code will display—give this code to your provider to get a refill code.

7. Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Unplug before cleaning.
  • Wipe with mild dish soap solution and soft, non-abrasive cloth.
  • For low-level disinfection: Use Monk wipes or 70% isopropyl alcohol (3-minute contact), allow to air dry.
  • For high-level disinfection: Use FDA-cleared product such as Steris Resert XL-HLD for multi-user situations.
  • Do not use paper towels or abrasive materials on acrylic surfaces.
  • Replace lamps after ~300 hours (UVB), ~500 hours (UVA/Blue). Contact support for lamp replacement and lamp hours reset.
  • Annual calibration or every 100 hours recommended.

  • Device won’t turn on? Check power, cord, and outlet.
  • Lamp not lighting? Check code, timer, or lamp status.
  • Device locked? Enter code or request unlock/reset from provider.
