1. Device Overview
The Phothera 600 is a high-capacity, multi-lamp phototherapy device for home or clinical use. It can be configured with either a ClearLink™ controller (offering Guided, Dosimetry, and Timed modes) or a DT (Digital Timer) controller for flexible physician-prescribed treatments. Both support exposure-limiting software and full compliance monitoring.
2. Indications for Use
The Phothera 600 is indicated for treating diagnosed skin disorders such as psoriasis, vitiligo, and atopic dermatitis (eczema) in pediatric through geriatric patients. When equipped with blue lamps, it is also indicated for mild to moderate acne vulgaris. Always use under physician supervision.
3. Controller Types (ClearLink & DT)
- ClearLink™ Controller:Advanced touchscreen controller with three treatment modes:
- Guided: Dose and safety checks auto-adjust based on your schedule and skin response.
- Dosimetry: Set a prescribed light dose (Joules/mJ); time is calculated automatically.
- Timed: Set treatment time directly, as prescribed.
- Built-in sensors monitor lamp output and can adjust treatment time for accuracy. Supports USB data export and exposure-limiting features.
- DT (Digital Timer) Controller: Simple, robust time-based controller. Set treatment time as directed by your provider. Security code and exposure-limiting features included. Lamps auto-off at end of session.
- Both controllers may include exposure limiting software to restrict the number of allowed treatments before a physician-provided refill code is needed.
4. Warnings & Safety Precautions
- Prescription Use Only: Device must be used only under a licensed physician's supervision.
- Always wear UV-blocking goggles: For all users and anyone else present. Use only approved eyewear.
- Cover untreated skin: Use SPF 30+ sunscreen on areas not being treated.
- Never use over skin eruptions or burns without physician consent.
- Do not use if device, cord, or goggles are damaged. Keep away from water.
- DANGER – ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION: Overexposure can cause burns, skin aging, or cancer. Always follow all safety guidelines and warning labels.
- Remove pets and other people from the treatment area. Only authorized users should operate the device.
- Do not modify or repair device without authorization.
5. Setup & Assembly
- Unpack device and all accessories. Inspect for damage.
- Place device on a stable, flat surface near a grounded outlet, away from children, moisture, or foot traffic.
- Install stand or feet per instructions (refer to included diagrams or your manual for your lamp configuration).
- Plug in power cable and ensure proper grounding.
- Check lamp type/placement matches your prescription (see lamp label).
6. Operating Instructions
ClearLink Controller
- Unlock device: Tap blank screen, tap Phothera logo, enter code 0007, press Enter.
- Select treatment mode (Guided, Dosimetry, Timed) as instructed by your provider.
- Choose prescribed dose or time, and treatment distance (e.g., 0 in or 9 in for multi-lamp units).
- Put on goggles, confirm settings, and press Enter/Start to begin treatment.
- Lamps shut off automatically. To treat multiple areas, use Repeat as prompted.
- Record treatments and consult your physician for any adverse reactions.
DT Controller
- Press any button to power on device.
- Enter security code (default 0007) using arrow keys and Play/Pause.
- Set treatment time per prescription, confirm, and begin treatment.
- Lamps turn off automatically when session is complete.
7. Treatment Modes
- Guided Mode (ClearLink): Device adjusts doses and checks skin response, with reminders for missed or painful treatments.
- Dosimetry Mode (ClearLink): Set dose in Joules/mJ; device calculates time. Built-in dosimeter ensures accurate dosing.
- Timed Mode (ClearLink & DT): Set treatment time directly per physician orders. Always use time charts or a treatment calculator if prescribed.
8. Cleaning & Maintenance
- Unplug before cleaning. Wipe with non-abrasive cloth and mild soap solution.
- Disinfect patient-contacting surfaces with Monk wipes or 70% isopropyl alcohol (3 min contact).
- For high-level disinfection, use FDA-cleared products like Steris Resert XL-HLD (see manual).
- Replace lamps as prescribed (typically UVB every 300 hours, UVA/Blue every 500 hours).
- Annual calibration recommended or every 100 hours/use, especially with ClearLink dosimeter.
