Device calibration ensures accurate treatment delivery and maintains safety standards.


When Calibration is Needed (For CLINICAL DEVICES, used for multiple patients, Home Devices used by one patient can acknowledge the CAL message)


Regular Calibration Schedule:

  • Every 100 hours of use, OR
  • Once per year (whichever occurs first)
  • When lamps are replaced
  • If your device displays a "CAL Needed" message (this message will appear 100 hours after calibration or when one year passes since calibration)


Signs Your Device Needs Calibration:

  • "CAL Needed" message
  • Longer treatment times than normal
  • Changes in treatment effectiveness
  • After any lamp replacement


CAL Needed Resolution

When You See "CAL Needed":

  1. Do not continue treatments until calibration is completed
  2. Contact Phothera customer service (Using the Contact Form linked below)
  3. Follow their instructions for calibration scheduling
  4. Do not attempt to bypass or ignore this error


What Calibration Involves:

  • Professional measurement of device output using an approved irradiance meter, and proper recalibration steps entered into the specific device controller.
  • Verification of dosimeter accuracy (for Guided and Dosimetry units)
  • Timer accuracy verification
  • Safety system checks


Scheduling Calibration Services

How to Schedule:

  • Contact Phothera customer service (Fill out Phothera's form, select options HCP > I need help with our clinic’s device > I need to schedule a PM)
  • Provide your device model and serial number
  • Describe any issues you've noticed
  • Schedule at your convenience
  • Cost may be associated with the service


Calibration Options:

  • Meter Rental: Phothera can rent you a calibration meter for self-service calibration
  • Meter Purchase: Purchase your own calibration equipment
  • Professional Service: Have Phothera technicians perform calibration


Preparation for Calibration:

  • Plan for 30 minutes to complete the process
  • Service Manuals are available for purchase
  • Ensure device is clean and in good working order
  • Have your device manual available
  • Clear your treatment schedule (device may be unavailable during calibration)
  • Document any specific concerns or issues


After Calibration:

  • Verify device operates normally
  • Keep calibration documentation for your records
  • Resume normal treatment schedule
  • Note the date for your next required calibration
  • Document change in treatment for patients after calibration


Calibration Accuracy Standards:

  • Timer accuracy is verified during calibration
  • Power output measurements ensure consistent treatment delivery
