Handisol • Narrowband UVB • 2-Lamp (Basic) & 4-Lamp (Premium)

1. Device Overview

Handisol is a home phototherapy device for hands, feet, and localized areas, available in 2-lamp (Basic) and 4-lamp (Premium) models. It uses a Digital Timer (DT) controller for time-based treatments and comes with a stand for angled positioning.

2. Indications for Use

For physician-directed treatment of psoriasis and vitiligo. Federal law restricts this device to sale by, or on the order of, a physician (U.S.).

3. Warnings & Safety

  • Prescription use only. Never treat more than once in 24 hours unless directed by a physician. Wear UV-blocking goggles during exposure.
  • Cover all skin not being treated. Some medicines/cosmetics/foods increase photosensitivity (watch for redness 3–24 hrs post-treatment).
  • Indoor use only (IPX0). Keep away from water; provide 4–6 in (10–15 cm) clearance for airflow.
  • Use a grounded outlet; do not use 3-to-2 prong adapters. Unplug before cleaning or lamp replacement.

4. Site, Power & Setup

  • Electrical: 120 VAC, 60 Hz, ~1.2 A; dedicated 15–20 A circuit recommended.
  • Operating conditions: 40–90 °F (4–32 °C); 20–90% RH (non-condensing).
  • Specs: Window 17.2″ × 13.2″; device 19″W × 20″L × 3″D (~10 lb); up to 8 mW/cm²; 150 pre-loaded treatments; max timer 10:00.

5. Positioning & Stand

  • Palms / Soles: Treat directly on the window surface (seated for soles). Do not stand or load body weight on the unit.
  • Other areas: Place area 6–8″ (15–20 cm) from the window, centered.
  • 4-Lamp Stand: Use notches to set angle; tighten both knobs fully before treating. For tops of hands/feet, rotate unit face-down in middle notch; align parallel to surface.
  • 2-Lamp Basic: Use acrylic stand; optional hand/foot standoffs can be installed (replace two nylon screws with hex standoffs).

6. Operating Instructions (Digital Timer)

  1. Unlock: press any key → display shows C0dE → press ▲ repeatedly to enter 0007 → press PLAY/PAUSE.
  2. Set time (mm:ss): ▲ increases the flashing digit; ◄ moves left. Press PLAY/PAUSE to lock, then press again to start.
  3. Pause/End: PLAY/PAUSE pauses (display HOLD); while paused, press CANCEL to end. After completion the last time flashes (Standby); press PLAY/PAUSE to repeat.

Notes: Max time 59:59; enter 1:00 (not 0:60). If power is lost during treatment, elapsed time isn’t remembered and one exposure may be deducted on exposure-limited units.

7. Treatment Protocols

A. Vitiligo (treat as Skin Type I)

  • Distance: on window surface.
  • Initial: 70% of MED; if MED unknown, start at 22 sec.
  • Increase: +10% each session unless burning occurs. If light burning persists → reduce by 25%, then +5% per session once resolved.
  • Frequency: 3×/week until re-pigmentation; maintenance typically begins when ≥75% re-pigmented.

8. Cleaning, Maintenance & Lamps

  • Unplug first. Clean lamps/reflectors with a soft cloth and 70% isopropyl alcohol; do not use alcohol on clear plastic windows—use mild detergent/water.
  • Lamp life: replace every 150–200 hours; replace all lamps together (mercury hazard—recycle responsibly; ventilate if broken).
  • Keep vents clear; dust periodically. Do not overtighten stand knobs; hand-tighten only.

9. Troubleshooting & Refills

  • Unlock issues: use Key Code 0007 (▲×7 → PLAY/PAUSE).
  • View Device Code (for refill): Unlock → press CANCEL + ◄ + PLAY/PAUSE → when “—1” shows, press ▲ four times to “—5” → PLAY/PAUSE → note code “CXXX”.
  • Refill: give “CXXX” to your prescriber; they’ll generate a 4-digit Treatment Code (e.g., 0/75/100/250/unlimited exposures) to enter when prompted.
  • Power loss mid-treatment: time isn’t remembered; one exposure may be deducted on exposure-limited units.
